Blues And Booze In The Bury 2009
13 Jun 2009 - 12:00pm
Details:
Following the successful Heroes Parade in June 2008 we are delighted to be celebrating three events in one on Saturday June 13th, RAF Odiham Day, Blues and Booze in the Bury and National Armed Forces Day, and of course the joyous decision that RAF Odiham and the famous Chinooks will stay.
This event was put in place should the Base shut as a reminder of our close connections with the RAF and will occur every two years with the Blues and Booze event to coincide with RAF two yearly management changeover schedule, 2009, 2011 and so on. Blues and Booze in the Bury will remain an annual event.
At the time of writing it is anticipated that parking for the event will be in the big field off the Alton road near the Crown that runs towards the church, however alternative arrangements will be made should the weather make it impossible to crop before the event.
The day is very much about the Base and recognising the fine and often dangerous work that is carried out on a daily basis by the Armed Forces and we should remember that representatives of the Army and Navy are also based at Odiham. There is also a new RAF Cadet Wing.
Please take note of the schedule for RAF Odiham Day.
1045 Crowds gather the length of Odiham High street. Flags are given out.
1100 Parade commences led by a Lynx helicopter and a Chinook at low level.
1103 Grp. Cpt. Andy Turner takes the salute at St.Johns Restaurant.
1106 Parade arrives in the Bury by the church for the presentation.
1107 Music from the band whilst the public are ushered to the churchyard.
1120 Address from Rt. Hon James Arbuthnot MP, Simon Quarrell, Chair of Odiham Parish Council and Grp Cpt. Andy Turner followed by a surprise !
Band plays followed by stand down and mingle with family, friends and wellwishers.
1200 Blues and Booze in the Bury with Martin Wood, Bob Long ( also the Music Director ) Kindablu, National Steel, and Robin Bibi, a great line up.
Real ales from Hogs Back Brewery, Crondall Brewery, Andwell Brewery, Ascot Ales, Bowmans Ales and Mr Whitehead Cider. Look out for fresh paella from
The Facing Chilli Heaven Company from Herriard, soup in a bun and Newlyns Hog Roast. Our resident clown will be loitering about the place to entertain the young ones and from previous experience some of the older ones.
The young ones are urged to bring their teddy bears in order for them to be parachuted off the church tower in aid of the organ fund, commencing at 1400 hrs. Afternoon teas will be served from the church and the grounds are the ideal place to enjoy this and the event.
This is very much a family day and all are welcome to join this free event.
1800 Event closes.
