Odiham Twinning Association
The Parish of Odiham has been twinned with Sourdeval, in Normandy, France since 1993 and the friendship is still going strong. Sourdeval is a close knit rural community with a population of around 3,200 and can be found 50 miles south of Caen and 40 miles to the east of Mont St Michel. They have an enthusiastic and ambitious town council who, like us, see twinning as a way of developing links with the outside world for the good of the whole community. Sourdeval is also twinned with Uchte in Germany
The Odiham Twinning Association liaises with their French counterparts, linking groups, families, or individuals wishing to visit in either direction. We have attracted members from a wide spectrum of age, occupation, background and interests and we have forged new friendships, not only within our French twin town, but also within our own community.
We are a friendly group who meet several times during the year for social events. We either arrange a visit to Sourdeval every other year or welcome the ‘Sourdevalais’ to Odiham. In 2007 the French came here and joined in the celebrations for the RAF Parade of Heroes and Blues and Booze in The Bury. In 2009 we took them to Windsor and then had a Safari Supper which they really enjoyed. They will be back in April 2011 and we are planning a trip to the London Eye and Westminster Abbey. We will be having our annual Christmas meal on the 10th December and a Safari Supper 21st January to raise funds. If you would like to join us, please see the contact details below.
Set in the attractively undulating Normandy countryside and close to the valley of the River Sée, Sourdeval has been linked over the centuries with the production of stainless steel and still retains it’s name ‘Cite d’Inox’. Recent production included Guy Degrenne cutlery. Sourdeval is surrounded by small dairy and beef farms – many of the cattle are sold locally in the weekly market. An abundance of apples are grown in the area for the production of the local speciality, Pommeau. Goats cheese, foie gras, rillettes, pear or apple cider and Calvados can be purchased directly from many of the farms
Sourdeval offers a wide range of sporting and cultural activities to both residents and visitors ~ petanque, gymnastics, football, athletics, music, drama and language groups to name a few. The tranquility of the scenic Brouains Valley is ideal for camping, sightseeing, fishing, walking, horse riding and cycling.
There is a great sense of civic pride and the town is a regular winner in the Department’s ‘Ville Fleurie’ competition. There are annual festivals in July, August and a Christmas market.
Friendship, fun and opportunity for all are our watchwords. Family membership is £10 per annum.

Odiham & Hook Rotary Club
Details:
Rotary International is a global network of service volunteers. It is the world's largest service organisation for business and professional people, with some 1,210,905 members operating in 168 countries world-wide.
There are some 58,000 Rotarians in Great Britain and Ireland in 1,845 clubs, helping those in need and working towards world understanding and peace. Its a fulfilling role, and Rotarians can get involved as much or as little as their time will allow.
But there is much more. Clubs meet on a regular basis, which allows members to build firm friendships. Every Rotarian has a right to attend any Club meeting anywhere in the world, so there is always somewhere to go, and people to meet, wherever business or leisure travel may take you.
Various Clubs have different emphases, which can reflect differences in size. A small market town may have a Club of perhaps 20 members, whereas in large centres the number can be closer to 100. Some concentrate on local community or vocational projects. Others link up with a sister club in another country to undertake an international project. Each Club decides how it wants to use the resources it has available.
The Odiham & Hook Rotary Club Meet at The George Hotel on Tuesdays at 19.30.
